Fix Microsoft Office issues after Windows 10 upgrade

Experts always suggest you to install the updates of programs and operating systems as soon as they are launched. As a result of this, many have updated their Windows 10 operating system. However, most of the users after undergoing a specific Windows 10 update have started to face some issues with the programs available on their device. The program that got affected the most is Microsoft Office.

Many have reported that they are unable to access Office apps and a few are unable to use some of its features. Thus, they need to undergo some workarounds in order to get the Office apps working again. So, here in this tutorial, we are going to discuss the five possible ways to get rid of the issue.

Workarounds to fix Office issues

Solution 1: ensure that Office suite is not corrupted

This is the first basic method you should try in order to get rid of the issue instantly. For this, the initial thing you need to check is the system requirement for the Office suite you have downloaded. If the file is not compatible with your device, then the Office apps won’t be supported and ultimately you won’t be able to use them. Also, you need to check that these files are corrupted or not. If you do not update the programs from an official platform, then there are chances that you download the corrupted files. After considering these two aspects, you can move ahead with other workarounds.

Solution 2: try disabling the Protected View

In some cases, the settings in your Windows operating system may restrict some files from opening so that you are protected from the surrounding threats. Thus, if you have enabled a protected view for your Office apps, then make sure you disable it as soon as possible. For this:

  1. Open one of the Office applications.
  2. Then, navigate to its ‘File’ option.
  3. From here, select ‘Options’ and then choose ‘Trust Center’.
  4. Further, expand the Trust Center Settings.
  5. And, then open Protected View.
  6. Here, you need to disable all 3 options to disable the ‘Protected View’.
  7. After making the changes, click on the ‘OK’ button.

Solution 3: Repair Office

Although Office 365 has several limitations but there is one commendable thing about it. The Microsoft platform allows its users to undergo a possible repair that fixes minor and major issues with Office. With this repair program, you can get rid of the issues with any Office app including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and so on. Follow this procedure for repairing your Office file:

  1. Initially, you need to right-click the Start menu.
  2. After that, open the Programs and features settings.
  3. Here, you need to right-click on one of the Office apps.
  4. From the drop-down, choose the ‘Change’ option.
  5. Then, the “How would you like to repair your Office Programs” screen will appear.
  6. Further, you need to click on the ‘online Repair’ option.
  7. Wait for some time and then restart your PC.

Solution 4: change component services values to default

If above solutions do not help fix the issue, then possibly this workaround will. Here is how to do it:

  1. In the Search bar of your Windows 10, type dcomcnfg.
  2. Choose the first option from the search result.
  3. Then go to Computers > My Computer present under the Components Service pane.
  4. After that, right-click on ‘My Computer’ and the open the ‘Properties’.
  5. Under this tab, ensure that the following have these values against them:
  • Default Impersonation Level: Identify
  • Default Authentication Level: Connect
  1. After checking this, press OK.

If this doesn’t help, move to the next workaround.

Solution 5: Reinstall Office

This is the final thing you can try in order to get rid of the issues instantly. For this purpose, you may navigate to www.office.com/setup and follow the necessary steps for reinstalling Office. Before reinstalling Office, you need to ensure that you uninstall the previous version successfully.

These were some of the possible fixes to overcome the issues with Office after you install the updates of Windows 10. Hopefully, by now, the issue must have been resolved and you will be able to use Office again.
